Cindy…my beautiful soul sister. I am still asking the Universe why she is no longer with us. One thing I know for sure is that she filled a very big space in my life. I can feel the hole she has left in so many places and it hurts. She wasn’t just a dog, she was my best friend and teacher. The lessons she taught me will remain strong in my mind forever.
No words can express the love I have for my gorgeous friend, so I wanted to share some photos instead. They make me laugh and cry at the same time, and give you a little taste of what she taught me during her short time on earth.
As I was writing this post, I came across the following quote from Gabrielle Bernstein’s book, The Universe Has Your Back:
“Honour the wounds that got you here. The Sufi poet Rumi said, “The wound is the place where the light enters you.” Trust that your wounds are exactly as the Universe planned. They were divinely placed in your life in the perfect order so that you could show up for them with love and remember the light within. As difficult as your circumstances may have been, take a moment to honour them now. Honour the trauma, honour the pain, and honour the fear, knowing that all along the peace of love was always shining through you. No matter what happens to you in this lifetime, this truth will never change. The peace of love will never leave you.”
The wound is still raw but I must accept that what happened can’t be undone. I love you and honour you with all my heart Cindy, and I hope you take care of me from up there.
PS: I found this interesting article about why we grieve the loss of our dogs as much as the death of relatives and friends. I also found this article really helpful in dealing with grief associated with losing a dog. For anyone in my situation, it made me feel better that my feelings are not unusual.
